Josephine Baker's
Bag

1 or 2 skeins
Silken Straw
81f House Finch,
71f Rich Berry,
48a Passion Flower

Josephine started her career dancing as a child street performer in St. Louis. Now remembered as a quintessential expatriate — American by birth, French by choice—she became the indisputable star of the Parisian Revue. Known for appearing nearly nude onstage with her diamond-collared cheetah Chiquita, who occasionally jumped into the orchestra pit to terrify the musicians, Josephine was also a devout leader for the Civil Rights Movement. She adopted 12 children of 12 nationalities in her lifetime, which she called her "Rainbow Family." In the words of Ernest Hemingway, Ms. Baker was "...the most sensational woman anyone ever saw."

If Josephine had been a fiber artist, perhaps she would have created bold color fields of texture on which she could shimmy those fine silk tassels! The nature of our Silken Straw yarn calls for precisely such playful interpretation and expression – bold color, unapologetic shine, and curious texture, to accentuate the positive!
